Batta fish floating...?

i just got a batta fish yesterday n its deffinately alive but when it swims down it seems like its too light for the water n floots to the top... it seems to try to stay down by swimming but it cant swim for tht long n just gives up.. also it hasnt been eating tht much so wat is wrong with it
