Seriously, though, what is the meaning of the story in which Jesus curses the fig tree?

Jesus was really thirsty and hungry and he went to the tree to grab something to eat and there was nothing there. So he said that from this day forth you shall never bear fruit because you denied the son of God. Pretty much along those lines.
