Should I take any precations when dealing with a Chihuahua puppy and a large cat?

I have a large indoor/outdoor cat (about 8 years and abut 13 pounds) and a Chihuahua puppy (about 2 months and about 2 pounds) and I am not sure if I need to supervise the two together. Our cat is nice but can get upset easily and my puppy is very curious, anything I need to know?
